SLC – Things I wanna talk about

March 4th, 2010

This is just a reminder post for me! Next week I should have a conversation with my SLC teacher about how I do at school and if I think everything is going good. Don’t worry, there is nothing wrong! It’s just that everybody has to do such a conversation to make sure that everyone is fine.

Well things I want to talk about and ask:

  1. Presentation at my old school, can I get some time for that during SLC? Do I get any extra point for it?
  2. Chaos week: I want to organise a photo session in the studio, how can I do that, what is possible, what will it give me? (besides a nice day in the studio with lovely students that want to learn ;) )
  3. Japanese optional study: why didn’t I heard anything from Tim? I am doing a Japanese study on my own now, but it takes a lot of time and I’m afraid it will strain me to much, is there a possibility that I do the Japanese lessons and skip the optional study next quarters?

IAD – Garden Research

March 3rd, 2010

For this quarter I have to make a rapport and a advice for a garden website. The first assignment was to do some research for this which contained: doing interviews, chosing a garden style and a user that fits with it, taking at least 50 pictures of objects that concerned the chosen garden and user that I chosen before. I finished that tonight. It was a lot of work, I can tell you that! The report took me about 5 hours to make, but including the interviews and picture making it took me about 9 hours! I just overdid it with 1 hour becuase the assignment paper said it should take about 8 hours.

Well, I really did my very best on this report! For the people interested, here is the report! Oh yeah, it’s Dutch of course ;)

MEDMEC – Co-creation research

March 1st, 2010

Today I’ve been working on my Media and Creativity assignment. We had to do some research about co-creation, what is it, how does it work and why you want to use it. I needed to have at least 5 different sources and 5 different examples, I think I did that just right ;) Well, the report is attached to this message, so if you want to have a look at it be my quest! Oh, before you click it, it’s Dutch, sorry about that but I have to make my assignments in Dutch :P

Project Q3

February 26th, 2010

Yesterday we had a project day :) We worked on project the whole day, well whole day… about 6/7 hours. We did a lot, we made a concept which I am very happy about!

Well, if you want to check the progress you can see it by clicking here (Dutch).

Building material

February 17th, 2010

Today I did a assignment for Media and Creativity. This assignment was about finding 10 different ways to make a tall ‘building’ with only paper. You can’t use any tools at all; so no scissors, glue or tape, only paper (normal paper). It was pretty fun although it cost me a lot of time. For this assignment I pulled out my Origami book I bought in Japan. There where some things in it I could use, like making a balloon (and flatting out two sides so you can put them on each other) or making a pyramide shaped box!

It was really funny. Below are some photo’s of what I made tonight! (yeah I’m kind of proud! :P )

Report International Film Festival

February 16th, 2010

For school I need to post my school work onto a portofolio, so let’s get started with that shall I?

For last quarter (winter quarter) I took the optional class called International Film Festival. It’s about the Film Festival that was held in Rotterdam in January and February. For this class I needed to watch films and make reports about them. In the end of this class I needed to make a complete report about what I did for that class. You can find this report at below, but (as it concerns a Dutch study) it’s in Dutch :P

Also, in other news, I updated my grades page again ;)

NTFS on a Mac

February 11th, 2010

Just found this post on the macrumers forum. It’s for getting NTFS read and write permissions on Mac OSX, this is usually used on formatted external hard drives. For my own future reference but also for others, here it is:

iBlacky of the same forum posted a better method. Basically, it’s running mount_ntfs with read/write option specified.

Here’s how it’s done in Terminal:

sudo mv /sbin/mount_ntfs /sbin/mount_ntfs.orig

sudo nano /sbin/mount_ntfs

#!/bin/sh
/sbin/mount_ntfs.orig -o rw “$@”

(press Enter, Ctrl-O, Enter, Ctrl-X in sequence)

sudo chown root:wheel /sbin/mount_ntfs
sudo chmod 755 /sbin/mount_ntfs

Make sure to check that mount_ntfs is listed as -rwxr-xr-x and root wheel when you type ls -al /sbin/mount_ntfs and you’re good to go.

P.S.
If it isn’t working for you, it may be that the NTFS partition wasn’t cleanly unmounted previously (e.g. not using safe eject in Windows). To check if this is the case, open Console in Utilities, and go to ‘All Messages’ instead of ‘Console Messages’. Search for ‘ntfs’ and you may come across an error that displays like this:

NTFS-fs error (device /dev/disk3s1, pid 435): ntfs_system_inodes_get(): $LogFile is not clean. Mounting read-only. Mount in Windows.

You need to plug the disk into Windows-running system, and do a safe eject. Then the NTFS partition will mount in read/write mode.

In case you don’t like it:
sudo mv /sbin/mount_ntfs.orig /sbin/mount_ntfs

Audiosurf

February 11th, 2010

Found a wonderful game last night! It’s called Audiosurf and it works with your own music! You select your own music in the game and then the game makes a nice course for you to ride on. It’s really funny and quite addictive. I played it on Windows but I can see some reports that it is available for Mac also, checking that out right now.

You can find Audiosurf here: click
