Progress
On this page you will find information about my progress concerning my study, as well as my goals and assignments I am most proud of.
One of few things that you can see on this site is that it is in English. I did this because I want to work on a international base in the future. I made this site in English so that everybody in the world can read what I am doing, but also for extra practice with the English language. One of my goals for school is to do my internship in Japan. Japan is a really big point interest for me because of the big difference in culture, the people are different and react differently, it will be a really big challenge to do my internship there!
Because I want to do my internship in Japan I need to learn the basic of the Japanse language. I started learning Japanese in January 2010 where I learn the basic like asking the time and price of objects and introducing myself and/or others.
Apart from the internship in Japan I have some other goals I want to achieve this year. I started my study in 2009 with a big question concerning creativity; do I have enough of it and is it enough? I already learned some great methods to create new idea’s and to boost my creativity. I also found a few websites that I use for inspiration that I got from my classmates which are also a great inspiration source for me. My goals concerning creativity is to have learned a lot of different methods to boost my creativity.
A other goal for this year is to learn to take orders from other people during projects. Until this year I only leaded projects, so it’s very strange and hard for me to not lead a project team. My plan to learn this is to skip the project leader in at least two projects. During these projects I should watch out to not intervene with the project leader and to listen more instead of talking. The project during Q2 was a very hard one for me, I was constantly giving orders instead of the real project leader. My other project members gave me some feedback about it and I try to use that during the Q3 project which has gone great.
Some other goals are to learn to work with more programs for my study. I have some skills with Photoshop and a bit with Illustrator. My goal is to get more familiar with Illustrator, InDesign and AfterEffects. My website (the one you are looking at right now) has been made in Illustrator and Photoshop.
For Illustrator I want to learn some more in the next year; like how to make characters and vector art, the goals for this year (for Illustrator) is to learn the basics and to know how the tools work, which I accomplished by making this site. For InDesign my goal is to learn the tools and learn how to make great documents for school using graphics and typography. I started with InDesign in Q2, and I really started using it Q3 by using it to make all my school reports as you can see here. For Q4 I want to do the same thing, but then a bit more spectacular. In anyway I achieved my goal for learning the basics of InDesign in Q3. AfterEffects is a video editing tool which you can use to apply certain effects to a recording. In Q3 of this year we needed to make a video for VID where I used some tools in AfterEffects to apply a tilt and shift effect. The making of this video introduced me to the program AffterEffects and I learned how the interface of AfterEffects worked. Because of this I achieved my goal. I plan to extend this knowledge in Q4 if my assignments can give me enough time for it.
The goals above are all important, but some have a higher priority then others. First I wanted to learn how to work in other projects without being the project leader. Second is to learn how to work with InDesign and Illustrator (in that order). Third is to learn and use multiple creative methods to make things. Fourth and last is to learn Japanese for my internship which is some 2 to 3 years away.
One of my best assignments so far is the creation of this website. I made this website for Media and Creativity and I put a lot of work into it. I was very pleased with the result! The colors and the style really gives a visual presentation of me as a person. My greatest interest (Japan) is part of the design as well as my home country.
